Photoshop Tutorial – Colouring Quick Tip

Posted by carol On November 25th, 2011 In Design, Tutorials With 1 Comment

There are many, many brushes available for Photoshop, and combining brushes with Photoshop’s layer modes can create some stunning colouring effects.

For this quick tip in colouring in Photoshop you will need brushes that have shading – solid shapes will not work with this method.

Using just a few colours and different layer modes you can create art with subtle shade differences, and the variances are almost endless – this is a great way to learn how the layer modes work, you can adjust, readjust and adjust again until you achieve the desired effects.

Vintage Effect Photoshop Tutorial

Posted by carol On October 26th, 2011 In Photo Effects, Tutorials With 3 Comments

In this tutorial we will be using some adjustment layers in Photoshop to create a vintage effect on a modern photo.

After Step 4, if you don't wish to continue or don't have the time to, you can download the .psd file and apply it to your image. As the effects are presented in the individual adjustment layers, you can tweak them as necessary for the image you are working on.

Also, for the curves layer I have created a Curves preset which you can also download. The download link for the Curves preset is available in Step 8, and the .psd download link can be found at the bottom of the page.

Photoshop Quick Tip: Clean Extraction

Posted by carol On August 24th, 2011 In Design, Tutorials With 5 Comments

Extraction of objects or people in photo manipulation is an art-form on its own!

There are many tutorials available for different methods of extraction, but at the end of the day, most manipulators will not use just one method – certain objects require certain methods, whether that is due to their size, complexity or whatever.

I am not advocating any particular method of extraction in this tip, rather, I am sharing a quick way of cleaning up after extraction (with a mask and the Brush tool).

Photoshop’s Adjustment Layers – A Complete Guide

Posted by carol On July 12th, 2011 In Tutorials With 2 Comments

Using adjustment layers in Photoshop is a non-destructive way of enhancing or changing images.

By either turning off the visibility or deleting the adjustment layer, your original image will be exactly as it started.

In this guide I will be displaying the effects of all of the adjustment layers, with the settings I used to achieve the result.

Text Within Text Photoshop Tutorial

Follow this Photoshop tutorial to easily create a text-within-text effect.

This is a fairly easy tutorial, but my recommendation is that you very carefully follow each instruction as it gets a little confusing in places and one missed step will throw out the end result.

Stunningly Beautiful Photographs of Mountains

Posted by carol On June 9th, 2011 In Inspiration, Photography, Tutorials With No Comment

In searching for these outstanding photographs, I came to the conclusion that photographing mountains is not as easy as it may first appear – I honestly thought I would struggle to decide which great photos to leave out of this list – instead, it took an age to source these beautiful images.

A Google search for the reasons returned an article by Darwin Wiggett, who states:

“Of all the landscapes I have photographed, mountains remain one of the most difficult to capture well.”

The reason for this, according to Wiggett is that light is the only tool for capturing a shot of a mountain, and to get a great shot you have to consider the three main categories of light: Light Quality, Light Direction and Light Temperature.

If you are interested in reading more, visit Darwin Wiggett’s article How to Photograph Mountains published by Nature Photographers Online Magazine.

Here are 20 photographs of mountains that I consider to be stunningly beautiful shots.
