The Very Best of National Geographic’s Photo of the Day August 2015

The Very Best of National Geographic's Photo of the Day August 2015

The National Geographic Society has been around for so long… they were publishing their well-known geographic magazine way before the days of the internet – since 1888 to be precise. You might think the popularity of the internet and all the photographic sites there are would put National Geographic into the shade – but no, they have simply harnessed the power of the internet to expand and improve their commitment to ‘inspire people to care about the planet’. They remain a nonprofit scientific and educational institution. Here are (in my opinion) the very best examples of their Photo of the Day during August 2015.

The beauty of psd files is that the layers are available for you to tweak for your specific requirements, and they also help if you are just starting out with Photoshop – you can learn from them what the adjustment layers actually do. So here are a couple of sets of 6 psd coloring files, completely free to use – they have been created by me, but are uploaded to my Deviantart account.

Polished Wood Text Effect

I came across this font and thought that it had great possibilities for a text effect. It reminds me very much of branches of a tree, so I worked on that thought, and this beautiful polished wood text effect was the end result.

Classics Text Textures

These free textures are filled with text from classic novels: Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Black Beauty by Anna Sewell and The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens. They have been created with different fonts, and with different levels of distress on the text. Three of them have black text and one has dark blue text. The first image below shows one of the textures at about 70%, the other image shows the textures at full size, so it only shows very small portions of them. The textures are 3000px x 2000px, 72ppi in .jpg format.
