3 Halloween Photoshop Text Effect Tutorials

With Halloween fast approaching, if you want to adorn your website or create some spooky typography, here are three quick tutorials for some creepy text effects. These effects use only layer styles and some ghoulish free fonts.

Resources

These are the 3 fonts I used:

Step 1

I will walk you through creating the background and all of the styles on that one background as in the image above.

Create a new file – 650px x 450px.

Fill the background with #262525

Select the Brush Tool – soft round brush at size 432px, foreground color set to #F2D861 and on a new layer click once in the center of the canvas.

Reduce the layer opacity to 85%

Step 2

Using Scary Halloween font at size 90pt, foreground color white – type the first line of your text – for the purposes of this tutorial we will call it ‘halloween’.

I love using and learning Photoshop, and I also enjoy creating resources to share with the world. I am at my happiest when I have free time to further explore all that Photoshop has to offer and learn more about its powerful built-in tools. I hope people enjoy either using or learning from my free resources, and welcome any hints and tips - and of course, if you would like to offer a free resource on this site, please don't hesitate to contact me (top right of the page).
