Summer is just around the corner for those of us in the western hemisphere, so to get you in the mood to greet the warm lazy, hazy days of summer, here is a collection of summer photography.

Messy, grungy style web design is very popular these days, especially among the younger designers and developers portfolios, blogs and websites.
There are some outstanding designs that incorporate hand drawn elements, grungy elements and a little chaos, but still present a well ordered and easy to navigate site.
This collection showcases just a few such site designs.

Still life photography covers quite a large range of concepts.
Many examples of still life photography are set up by the photographer, who needs a creative eye to select the subject of the image and the backdrop, etc., as well as a great deal of skill to achieve an effective result through the correct lighting and photography techniques.
Another concept of still life photography – which I have to say, appeals to me more – is the idea of waiting, or a scene that has been abandoned, where you can imagine the life that was present. The photographer needs to spot this situation, and quite possibly return many times at unsociable times of the day to get the correct lighting or backdrop for the perfect shot.
This collection of stunning still life photography includes many different concepts. What they all have in common is an extremely creative photographer with outstanding photographic skills.

Here is this week's collection of outstanding digital art and design, and of course, a quotation after the showcase.

Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of raster graphics software, such as Photoshop and Gimp, where images are edited on the pixel level. Graphics in most old computer and video games, graphing calculator games, and many mobile phone games are mostly pixel art.
Many of these images are created very small, so rather than enlarge them and distort them horribly, I have shown them at their full, small size here.

So, the theory goes that elephants are afraid of mice. I trawled the internet looking for the truth, and found it is an ongoing debate! Many think that elephants are not afraid of mice per se, but are wary of them. Others report that elephants simply look bored when shown a mouse.
However, this research threw a spanner into the works, as I stumbled upon articles stating that no, elephants are not afraid of mice, but are terrified of ants! There is some logic to this apparent fear… as elephants eat foliage and bark from trees, ants can invade their trunks – which must tickle like mad, but also, ants nip and that stings!
Whatever the truth is, I decided to bring you a showcase of photographs of elephants and mice – the big and the small.

Infographics, or data visualisation, is a means of projecting a message through images and key points, rather than tens or even hundreds of pages of text. This method of imparting facts and figures makes it more likely that a greater percentage of the target audience will not only look at the information, but understand and digest it as well.
Here I have collected some recent and well-presented infographics on very differing subjects. The subject was not the main attraction for selecting this list, rather the presentation.

Patterns are great for producing large background areas where perhaps a .jpg background or texture is not large enough.
Today I am showcasing a collection of beautiful floral patterns packs - which are, quite surprisingly, not in abundance in terms of availability - floral everything can usually be found in great numbers... but not pattern packs!
