Photoshop Tutorial – Decorated Text Effect

This stunning text effect is created using a free font, a free vector graphic and lots of Photoshop’s blending options. Very effective and very easy!

Step 1

Open a new file using the following settings:

New File Settings

Step 2

Open the Floral Motifs

Using the Lasso tool, draw a rough selection around the last of the 4 florals

Edit>Copy (Ctrl + C)

Make your project active

Edit>Paste (Ctrl + V)

Step 3

Select the Magic Wand tool and click close to the floral

This should select all the white

Hit the Delete key – you won’t see much happening at this point, but the white around the floral should now be deleted

Ctrl + D to deselect

Step 4

Double click on the layer in the layers palette to bring up the blending options and apply the following Outer Glow, Inner Glow and Bevel & Emboss settings:

Floral Bevel & Emboss Settings

Reduce the layer opacity to 85%

Rename the layer ‘ornament’

Fill the background layer with black

Step 5

Make the ornament layer active

Ctrl + T to transform the object

Right click within the transform box and click Flip Horizontal

Right click again within the transform box and click Flip Vertical

Step 6

Select the Type tool, Euphorigenic font, size 100pt, foreground colour white

Type each word of your text on a separate layer

Apply the following Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Bevel & Emboss and Gradient Overlay settings to each text layer:

Text Bevel & Emboss Settings

Text Gradient Overlay Settings

Reduce the opacity of each text layer to 85%

Move each text layer into the desired position

Step 7

Merge all text layers together

Reduce the layer opacity of this merged layer to 75%

Step 8

Create a new layer above the ornament layer

Merge this new empty layer with the ornament layer

Double click on the layer in the layers palette to bring up the blending options and apply the following Gradient Overlay settings:

Step 9

Create a new layer above the ornament layer

Set the foreground colour to blue #838CE6

Select a soft, round brush – around 380px size

Place the brush over the text and click once

Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur – apply the following settings:

Reduce the layer opacity to around 65%
